Lady Houston Chapter, NSDAR
Kingwood, Texas

Margaret Lea Houston Lady Houston
Lady Houston Chapter, NSDAR, comprises an enthusiastic and welcoming group of women in Kingwood, Texas, who can each trace our ancestry to a Patriot who fought in or supported the American Revolution.
ABOUT OUR CHAPTER
The Lady Houston Chapter, NSDAR, installed our first officers on Sunday, October 11, 1988. There were 35 members at the time. Our organizing regent, who is now an honorary regent of the chapter, is Mrs. Alan John Apicella. The members chose to bear the name of Lady Houston in honor of Margaret Lea Houston, daughter of Temple and Nancy Moffette Lea and wife of Sam Houston.
The Lady Houston Chapter, NSDAR, is dedicated to serving our community and committed to promoting education, patriotism, and historic preservation. Here are some of the ways the members of the Lady Houston Chapter, NSDAR, give back:
- Serving various schools in the greater Kingwood area by awarding medals to outstanding Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) students, encourage local students to apply for NSDAR scholarship opportunities, and provide for other needs that our chapter members believe will assist local educators and students.
- Supporting veterans at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center by providing gifts during the holidays, donating books and magazines, and assisting with events at the VA hospital on an as-needed basis.
- Planting pollinator gardens and cleaning up Kingwood parks.
- Honoring local veterans on Veterans Day.
- Volunteering at educational events relating to the history of our great nation.
These are just examples of the many ways our chapter promotes historic preservation, education, and patriotism. We are always interested in learning about new ways to further these goals in our community.
